Indoor air quality monitoring and vape detection for your buildings
See air conditions across every site from one dashboard. Get alerted when vaping or smoking is likely in restrooms and other privacy-sensitive spaces, where the model, placement and audio settings need review before deployment. CloudSource is a Verkada technology partner for design, procurement, configuration and deployment oversight, and qualified installation partners perform the physical installation. It all runs on the same Verkada platform as your cameras and doors.
Projects start with an assessment of your sites and requirements before anything is deployed.
What indoor air quality monitoring and vape detection actually do
These sensors measure the air in a room and tell you when something changes. They do not fix anything on their own. People decide what to do next.
- 01
Sensors measure conditions
An indoor air quality monitor reads the air in a space and reports it. Verkada says its sensors cover things like carbon dioxide, particulate matter, temperature, humidity and noise, depending on the model. The FAQ below lists the full set.
- 02
Vape detection is a likelihood score
Verkada's Vape Index combines readings from several onboard sensors into a score that indicates the likelihood of vaping or smoking nearby. Verkada says it cannot give 100% proof of an incident, and that smoke or fumes from other sources, such as cooking, burning fuel or wildfires, can also register.
- 03
You set the alerts, people decide
Verkada says you can set custom alert thresholds and receive alerts by SMS and email, or by webhook through its API. A sensor measures and alerts. Your team decides the response, which may include calling your HVAC provider.
Where air quality sensors fit in a commercial building
The best uses are the spaces you cannot or do not want to watch with a camera, and the sites you cannot visit every day.
Commercial properties and property managers
Commercial properties and property management teams use this to keep one view of air conditions across a portfolio. Verkada Command manages its products across all sites from one interface, so a property manager sees every building without one login per site.
Healthcare facilities
Healthcare facilities with many small rooms and changing occupancy can use remote visibility. Sensors report to the same cloud platform, so staff can see conditions across a clinic without visiting every room.
Multi-location businesses
A multi-location team can compare readings across sites and act on alerts in one place, so every building is held to the same standard.
Offices and workplaces
Use a commercial indoor air quality monitor to see carbon dioxide, temperature, humidity and other readings across floors and tenant spaces, then share site conditions with occupants and stakeholders through Verkada dashboards and reporting.
Restrooms and no-camera areas
Restrooms and similar spaces are where vaping is hard to see and cameras are not appropriate. A space without a camera is not automatically the right place for a sensor. Review the model, placement and audio settings for restrooms and other privacy-sensitive spaces, along with privacy requirements, appropriate placement and applicable regulations.
Server rooms, network closets and stock rooms
Temperature and humidity matter in rooms that hold equipment or stock. Verkada positions its higher-end sensor for server rooms, network closets and cold storage, and you can set alerts when readings move outside the range you choose.
What to decide before you add sensors
A few honest limits shape a good plan. They set the questions we work through with you.
Verkada says its air quality sensors are not a life safety device and should not be used as a smoke detector. A vape sensor adds to your existing smoke and CO alarms. It does not replace them.
Verkada says vape detection range depends on ceiling height, distance, airflow, ventilation and filtration, and that thresholds can be adjusted per environment. Where a sensor goes matters, and we review it with you before deployment.
Not every Verkada sensor does everything. The SV21 does not support vape detection. Capabilities vary by product and configuration, so we match the model to the room and the job.
Verkada says sensor data can be paired with camera footage for visual context on an event. That is a choice you make where cameras already make sense, not a requirement.
